We were very lucky to receive amazing advice from family and friends about what we would need for baby Drake. Neil and I haven't spent very much time around babies, so we were a bit clueless. We ended up with a great registry and everything we needed, but there were certain items that we have come to love that we never even knew existed!
BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush - We received this as a gift and at first we were thinking we would never use it. Diaper rash cream is by far the least disgusting thing that will get on your hands during a diaper change and to be fair we have still never used it for diaper rash cream. However, if you have a baby boy and you choose to have him circumcised this brush is a game changer for spreading Vaseline on gauze! If you have ever had to tend to a freshly circumcised baby you know how terrifying it is and you want to make sure that you get a nice thick, even spread of Vaseline on the gauze. This brush made it so much easier and faster which is key when you're trying to avoid getting peed on :)
Onesies That Unzip From the Bottom - I did not event think about this when I was buying and registering for clothes. The snaps & buttons are cute, but they're also a real pain in the ass. Zippers are crucial and if they zip from the bottom, so you don't have to unzip the whole outfit for a diaper change that's even better.
Velcro Swaddles - I bought so many cute muslin swaddles and while they are very cute that's about all I can say for them. Unless you're some sort of swaddle ninja they don't work that great. Drake was pretty quick to break out of them and then of course he would wake up. Look for swaddles that are velcro and have a little stretch. They are so much easier and your little one will sleep much better.
Bella Tunno Boss Bag Diaper Bag - This bag is a little bit pricey, but if you can swing it go for it. It has EVERYTHING that I could want in a diaper bag. It's vegan leather which is important to me. It has a ton of pockets, a changing pad, multi-use straps and a mini diaper clutch included. It's pretty and extremely functional.
The Baby Shusher Soother - I saw a blogger talk about this before I was even pregnant with Drake. It's a small noise machine that imitates the way you would "shush" a baby. It has two different time settings and a long battery life. It's also very easy to travel with. We have used it pretty much every night to put Drake to sleep and to be honest it kind of puts us to sleep too!
Water Wipes - THESE. Drake got a terrible diaper rash when he was a newborn (we figured out it was caused by a specific formula, so it was an easy fix) and regular wipes were too harsh for the blistered skin. These wipes are 99% water and are a necessity for sensitive skin and/or diaper rash. They're a little pricey, so we don't use them all the time, but I always have them on hand just in case.
