Is The All-White Kitchen Over?

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

I love an all-white kitchen. I HAVE an all-white kitchen, but lately there have been some amazing designs catching my eye that are making me think twice.

The all-white kitchen came in hot and has had a very long run and I still think it's beautiful. It feels bright & clean without much effort and allows you to change the whole look just by swapping out decor and accessories. I have seen white kitchens that have a farmhouse feel, white kitchens that have a modern feel , and white kitchens that have a bohemian look. They're very versatile, but.... maybe a little boring? Maybe a little overdone? Maybe every kitchen pinned on Pinterest is starting to look EXACTLY the same?

I'm not saying that everyone needs to go in and demo their kitchen to start over. That would be crazy, (unless you have that kind of cash flow and then by all means...get after it!) but there are some simple things you can do to break up all that white...

  1. Paint. Whether you want to take on the project yourself or hire a professional painting your cabinets is much more cost effective than starting new. You can also dip your toe in here. Paint just the island and see what a difference it makes.

  2. Remove one section of upper cabinets & add a floating shelf. This will help to break up the constant stream of white cabinets.

  3. Change out your back splash. If you're like us then you took the white kitchen look to the extreme and you also have a white subway tile back splash. Tile is not that hard to replace and there are so many amazing options!

  4. Change out the counter tops. Obviously this one is a much more expensive option, but adding butcher block to the top of your island, or choosing a dark counter will definitely add some variety to your all white space.

  5. Accessories. Bring in some color & texture with your lighting, decor, and hardware choices. I love woven light fixtures and matte black hardware in a kitchen. This is a very cost effective option and can be done in a weekend!

Check out these beautiful designs that have me wanting to say so long to my all-white look.

So what's your vote - Is the all-white kitchen here to stay, or are you ready to bring some color back in to your life? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!
